The unseen perspective
I create expressive and experimental landscapes with the aim of connecting the viewer to my love of the unseen and often overlooked pockets of nature.
I have always been inspired by the landscape and in particular by reflections within the lakes and waterways around me. My professional practice started with large scale tree reflections, painted with a mix of oil and different mediums to get a subtle watery feel to the work. However my need for a more environmentally friendly way of working and a wish to incorporate textures led me to a fabric hardening material. I then developed a technique of incorporating natural grasses, brackens and leaves into the canvas and building up with paints and mica powders to bring out the beauty of nature. I also use natural pigments such as walnut inks are used and non toxic varnishes to preserve the works. My current work is highly textural, using recycled and natural materials to create scenes or abstracts depicting often overlooked elements of beauty within our local landscape.
While my mediums and my style may vary my work remain an emotional response to the natural landscape painted in an environmentally responsible way as much as possible. As you can see from the search tab I create works in various materials and styles, always searching for ways to express the changing landscape. Also due to my love of the outdoors I am creating outdoor artworks to compliment the garden or patio. Please see the Outdoor Art page for more information.
I love to organise and curate exhibitions around the county. I am represented by a number of galleries around the country, exhibit my work regularly and participate in Open Studios around Northamptonshire during September. Please see the menu above for different types of artworks and details of what inspires me. In particular I love to create commissioned works and am happy to work on large scale bespoke pieces. You are welcome to contact me for a chat about your requirements or just for ideas on a space!
